NATHAN is the nicest mean looking guy I know

Nathan Reddy lives in Cape Town, works in Jo'Burg, and travels all the time. Nathan is a talented designer heading the world class South African firm GRID. I have never seen Nathan wear anything that wasn't black. When I suggested to shoot his portrait I couldn't have guessed he would come across as so aggressive and yes, theatening. He's the exact opposite of that! So I asked him to hide a bit.

This portrait was shot at home one beauty dish and a hand held Leica M on a storm grey background.

MAX is the end of boyhood

This was shot in the Hamptons, in front of a white wall, in less than 10min. Max is the poster boy for absolute beginners, with the future right ahead and a beautiful way of underestimating the challenges...

SHANTINI is BACK

This is my friend and make up artist Shantini. She used to be bald and beautiful and now she is Fauxhawk and beautiful. In any case, she's as unique as her name.

This picture was taken with a double lighting with key light on beauty dish. The capture is LeicaS.

SEBASTIEN goes to Hollywood

The multitalented artist Sebastien Léon Agneessens had just relocated from New York City to heavenly Los Angeles.

This picture was made in a studio downtown Low Angeles, the added palms were shot from my hotel room window at the Viceroy Santa Monica.

STEPHEN looks like a movie star

You can tell by looking at this picture that Stephen might be a man with a few stories. We met briefly in Vietnam a couple of years ago and since then Stephen made his way back to NYC. Without his signature glasses, I think he looks like a Hollywood Star on this picture.

The background is a sheet of simple craft paper that conveniently absorbs all the light. Shot at home, on a cold Sunday afternoon.

GABRIELLA is all over the place

I was lucky to catch Gabriella as she was spinning by NYC for a few days. She told me about Yoga in Thailand. Community living in Portugal. Crossing the USA with new friends. She's now back in Spain continuing to curate a beautiful life.

We shot this at home in just a few minutes. We talked a lot about photography given Gabriella is a fellow photographer with a perfect eye. I like this capture because it shows both how open to the world and driven Gabriella is.

You never get bored with MATTHIEU

He's 15, my second son and a fascinating human being. I'd need much more than a blog post to say what I know, think and feel about Matthieu. What I can say is this : he's a beautiful mind and fascinating to watch when he thinks. That's what this photograph is trying to show.

We shot this at home, against a simple piece of 'birch' background paper. It was Christmas 2014. Two striplights are very close to him and the aperture wide open (f1.8).

the Wonderful MIMI

I met Mimi in Spring 2014 at a NY Fashion Week event. A common friend introduced us and I was immediately struck by her grace and unique style. I later discovered her amazing work and researched her brand - Mimi Plange - and soon we were planning a collaboration.

This image was shot on November 15, 2014. It is part of the project we ended up producing together called "Mimi & Me". For some reason, this image reminds me of Edouard Manet's 'The Fifer'.

IBRAHIM, the 'devil' wears Mimi Plange

Ibrahim is the President of Mimi Plange with whom I had the honor of collaborating for a project called "Mimi and Me". Ibrahim speaks French (well, Belgium French) and has proven to be the kindest and most wonderful guy to work with.

Ibrahim's glasses are very much part of who he is. The problem was of course the reflection of my bright and close strip boxes. But I ended up loving the layers of light, on the glass and the eyeballs.
